Standard Asset RigidBodyFPSController disappears from scene in Play mode

I have a scene and in that scene is just the Standard Asset RigidBodyFPSController prefab, its children, a plane for it to sit on, and a directional light but when I enter play mode the prefab and it children completely disappear from the scene leaving just the plane and light, not even a camera.
